This is my page about the two Summits. A lot of people ask me about it and it's a little hard to explain in one go on the spot, so I made this to refer people to it when they ask me about it.
Both Summits, Handmaidens of Virtue and Mastering Knighthood, are hero simulations. Mastering Knighthood is a two-day simulation for 8-12-year-old boys to learn about how to be a knight in today's world. Handmaidens of Virtue is a one-day simulation for 8-12-year-old girls to learn about how to be a courageous defender of virtue in today's world. Both events have a king and a queen, adult leaders, youth leaders, a villain (or villains), and a plotted storyline that the 8-12-year-olds don't know about.
In Mastering Knighthood Summit, the "little knights" (as we call them) have knightly virtues to learn and practice and seven standards to learn and practice. They have five assignments that all of the knights know they will somehow accomplish by the end of the simulation: learn the knightly virtues, learn to work as a team, complete a quest, earn a sword, and prove themselves in battle. Those five assignments are always worked into the storyline somehow. They also have a theme for each year that goes along with the storyline.
In Handmaidens of Virtue Summit, the handmaidens (the little girls) have six virtues, an anthem (you remember about how I got my lyrics chosen? Yeah, it was for that anthem), and a theme. They basically have one thing to work for: being a virtuous princess.
Here's the technical part where I explain the structure of the leaders. The next two paragraphs are not essential information so you can skip them if you want. I just like being technical. First, Mastering Knighthood Summit:
In Mastering Knighthood Summit, there is one kingdom called Terre Libre (pronounced TEHR-uh LEEB-ruh) that is ruled by a king and a queen. Inside of this kingdom there are six camps, each with their own color. Inside of these camps, there are two Master Knights (15-18-year-old young men) and two Squires (14-year-old young men) that lead and teach the boys. There is one Lead Master Knight that is basically the main leader that all of the Master Knights and Squires follow and that most of the other youth volunteers follow as well. There are also many other youth and adult volunteers that help the Master Knights and Squires lead and teach these little knights.
In Handmaidens of Virtue Summit, there is one nation called Christathel, which means "beautiful follower of Christ," that is ruled by a king and a queen. Inside that nation are six kingdoms, each with a color, a name, and a virtue. Inside of each kingdom, there are two Princesses (15-19-year-old young women), two Ladies in Waiting (13-19-year-old young women), and two Royal Guards (15-18-year-old young men). The Princesses and Ladies in Waiting are there to lead and teach the handmaidens, and the Royal Guards are there to act like knights and be examples to the young girls for what they should expect and look for in young men and also to guard them from any danger. There is one Crown Princess that is basically the main leader that all of the Princesses and Ladies in Waiting follow and that most of the other youth volunteers follow as well. There are again many other youth and adult volunteers that help the Princesses and Ladies in Waiting to lead and teach the young handmaidens.
Now, for each event there is a huge highlight that everyone looks forward to. There are actually a few really cool highlights for each one but there is one really big one for each event:
For Mastering Knighthood, there is always a big battle. All of the little knights, Master Knights, Squires, and other male leaders fight in this battle against a big group of evil villains (they always win, of course). After that they have a big feast to celebrate. Then everyone goes home.
For Handmaidens of Virtue, there is a grand ball. Each handmaiden, after being coronated by their Princess (I am a Princess, by the way), will be escorted by their father (or other male relative of at least 16 years of age) to this grand ball. They will get brief dancing instructions and will be able to dance in their tiaras with their escorts. At the end of the ball, the anthem will be sung. Then everyone goes home.
Okay, having heard all about the two Summits, now it's time for you to register your boy or girl. Each Summit has a website that you can go to in order to register. Mastering Knighthood's is masteringknighthood.com. Handmaidens of Virtue's is crownedwithvirtue.com. If you want to register for one of these, you should do so right away, because the spots fill up really fast.
Thanks so much for reading! There is so much more that I could have covered but I hope this makes Summit more clear to those of you who have been confused by my ramblings before. :)
